LEGAL EXPERIENCE
In his private practice, our principal attorney Kevin Hoyes focuses on mortgage and foreclosure defense, County and City code enforcement, building and construction law, contract law, personal injury law, employment law, and appellate law. He also has experience with land use planning and development regulations through work as an independent contractor for a planning and development firm, Owen Trepanier and Associates, LLC.
Kevin Hoyes served as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Key West, Florida, for three years. During this time, he was involved in all aspects of local government law and he was responsible for the prosecution of all of the City's complex code enforcement cases and the defense of many of the personal injury cases that were brought against the City. In addition, he prepared ordinances, contracts, leases, and settlement agreements for the City.
Kevin Hoyes's past experience also includes insurance defense, PIP law, and medical malpractice cases. In addition, he has experience with family law issues and issues related to dissolution of marriage.
While in law school at the University of Florida, Kevin Hoyes earned an intern position at the Supreme Court of Florida. In this position, he researched and wrote memoranda of law for the Court on an array of appellate matters concerned with the determination of jurisdiction, writs to the Florida Supreme Court, and proposed changes to Rules Regulating the Florida Bar.
EDUCATION
Kevin Hoyes earned his J.D. from the University of Florida in May 2004. He received honors in Legal Research and Writing; honors in Appellate Advocacy; and the Outstanding Student Award from the Florida Bar in the Local Government Section.
Prior to pursuing a law degree, Kevin Hoyes earned his Ph.D. in Communication Research from the University of Southern California. After completing his doctoral studies, he served in Assistant Professor positions at Denison University in Ohio and the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He also served as Research Evaluator for the Center for Drug Free Living.
Kevin Hoyes earned his M.A. in Film Studies from the University of Westminster in London, England, and his B.A. in Drama and Film Studies from Kent University in Canterbury, England.
